Robyn Carey is a Dublin based printmaker and painter who studied at the National College of Art and Design (NCAD). In her debut solo exhibition with Hang Tough Contemporary, Robyn presents a series of work in her signature abstract style – combining bold colours, fluid textures and geometric forms.
Robyn introduces movement into her work by combining painterly brushwork techniques with stylised markings synonymous with printmaking. Additionally, through the multitude of vibrant colours, tones and textures she evokes an array of emotional responses in the viewer.
The title of the exhibition ‘Alternate’ takes its name from the notion that we all alternate between different perceptions of time, moving fast or slow, depending on our emotion response to our surroundings. This series of work also explores the notion of alternate realities and how the past, present and future may be occurring simultaneously. Through her series of abstract paintings, the artist creates an environment in which our full range of emotional responses can be experienced all at once.
‘Alternate‘ runs from 2 – 19 September 2021 at Hang Tough Contemporary’s pop-up location at Coppinger Row.
