Threadstories is a visual artist based in Kilkenny who produces contemporary art masks. Using photography and film, Threadstories captures these art objects in motion, where their forms are realised as they are activated by the wearer. Using materials ranging from wool to synthetic hair, the masks are constantly repurposed creating new and unique works of art. Her latest series of work is exhibiting for the first time at Molesworth Gallery in Dublin.
Threadstories explores themes of identity and privacy in the digital age through her work. Her art practice includes the creation of these textile art objects which are animated through performance.
The artist constantly manipulates and repurposes these masks to produce a variety of forms which resemble an array of facial expressions. Although these masks simulate human expression, they also obscure it, as the wearer is left anonymous.
The masks are ultimately documented and their imagery displayed primarily through social media, as a commentary on our finely crafted and curated online personas.
The exhibition covers the ground floor rooms of Molesworth Gallery and features new work as well as some previous work from the artist’s show ‘FalseHoods’ which exhibited in the Kilkenny Arts Centre Gallery in 2018.
‘Persona‘ is running from 3 – 30 September 2021 at Molesworth Gallery. To see more of Threadstories visit her Instagram.
