I had the pleasure of curating the 2021 edition of the SCOOP Art Auction, where a total of 430 artworks went up for auction raising over €230,000!
The Event
Day 1, Friday the 23rd of April – 2 sessions of 45 lots each starting @ 7:30pm sharp.
Day 2, Saturday the 24th of April – 3 sessions of 40 lots starting at 2:00pm sharp.
Day 3, Sunday the 25th of April – 3 sessions of 40 lots starting at 2:00pm sharp.
Day 4, Monday the 26th of April (extra session added due to phenomenal response from artists) – 1 session of 50+ lots starting @ 7:30pm sharp.
The auction was streamed live from the Copper House Gallery in Dublin City and was broadcast online through Invaluable.
Each artwork was available for viewing on the SCOOP Foundation’s page on Invaluable.com from the 1st of April. From then, bidders had left plenty of absentee bids and pre-bids ahead of the live auction. The live event was streamed for viewing on SCOOP’s page on April 23 – 26.
The Artists
This year’s auction included work by Emmalene Blake aka ESTR, Maser, Helen Steele, ACHES, Kate Beagan, Kathrina Rupit, SOLUS, Leah Hewson, DUDA, Kathrina Rupit, Derick Smith, Eamon Colman, Linda Brownlee, Conor Bereen, Morgan, Threadstories, Gráinne Nagle, Ciana Fitzgerald, Tim Goulding, EOIN, Aideen Barry, Kevin Sharkey, Niamh Gillespie, SUMS, Miriam Fitzgerald Juskova, Peter Monaghan, Una O’Connor, David Booth, Shane O’Driscoll, Stephen Burke, Vanessa Power, techno producer / DJ Gavin Matador and over 200 more artists with over 400 artworks up for grabs.
This year also featured 17 year old transition year student Harmanpreet Kaur who lives with her father and two siblings in the Direct Provision Centre in Kildare and who is an inspiring young artist. Harmanpreet created a large canvas out of The Crooked House Theatre studio space in Newbridge.
The Cause
Funds raised during the auction this year will be split 50/50 between an Artist Fund, which will help support artists during these difficult times, and for SCOOP to help them develop their Remote Learning Programmes for young persons living in Direct Provision centres in Ireland, and for displaced teenagers living in Displacement Camps in Iraqi Kurdistan. They are also developing a website to help displaced young persons learn about their Human Rights.
